The TLESPACK system from SMI is an accessory device that has been designed in order to allow the packaging company to pack cans on two layers, without the need to insert a pad or tray in between them. In order to be able to be superimposed one upon another in a stiff and steady manner, the cans need to be of the "fit-in" type. This means the can lid and bottom have to be shaped in a way, that the are "nesting" into one another in order to achieve the required package stability after the shrink film has been applied in the packer.
The SMI TLESPACK system can be installed at the inlet of the packer. It can be applied to MP cardboard sleeve mulitpackers, SK shrinkwrappers, WP wrap around packers and the combinded CM packaging machines of the SMI packaging machine product range.
The SMI TLESPACK unit consists of two special infeed conveyor belts that are running on two levels, one above the other. A thin transfer plate places the cans that are carried by the upper conveyor upon those running on the lower conveyor, thus forming a double-layer cluster.
Within the package formation section of the packer the stacked cans are then grouped into the required package collation. The prepared packages can be packed as follows:
Film only (SK machine series), film plus corrugated cardboard pad at the package bottom (SK and CM packaging machines), film plus corrugated cardboard tray, at the package bottom (SK and CM packers as well), overwrapping cardboard sleeve (MP packaging machines) and into a closed corrugated cardboard box, which can be done with the WP or a CM packaging machine types from SMI.
With the TLESPACK device in operation a packer can run up to 60 packs per minute, provided the packaging machine itself has been designed for a corresponding speed range. Main advantages of the SMI TLESPACK system cannot only be seen in terms of package material savings and corresponding cost reductions.
Thanks to the ability to pack the stacked cans into film only and beeing able to do this with a comparably high number of cans without the need to put cardboard pads or trays in between the two layers the package provides an ease of handling and manual carriage and in terms of storage of the finished packs. TLESPACK provides a very flexible and vast possibility to create compact, consumer friendly packages with the ability to even apply a handle upon them.
